Chichester-based cake makers More Food, who supply cakes to nationwide companies such as Waitrose and Budgens have been saved from administration. This deal has also saved 150 local jobs.

The company which started life as Chichester coffee shop Upstairs Downstairs, over twenty five years ago, became a wholesale business, specialising in creating handmade cakes and tray bakes for local companies and national retailers, after receiving an overwhelming demand for wholesale orders.

This saw the business generating revenues of £8m per year and relocating to an 8,000 sq ft factory.

However, on 1st September 2017 More Foods entered administration, after substantial moving and refit costs.

Andrew Duncan and Alex Cadwallader, directors at Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group, were appointed administrators. Following this appointment, the business and assets of the company were sold to Sussex Bakes.

Andrew Duncan said: “The sale of the business via a pre-pack ensures the continued employment of all 150 members of staff and means that work at the bakery can continue as it did before under the new ownership of Sussex Bakes.”
