Last night, one of the largest and most controversial planning application in Adur’s history was considered by Adur’s Planning Committee but a final decision has been deferred to allow Ikea to come forward with additional measures to reduce the environmental impact of the development

The New Monks Farm development will deliver 600 new homes, of which 180 will be affordable; a new Ikea retail development creating 435 jobs at all job levels and a Country Park with new access to the South Downs National Park.  The retail development of Ikea is a key component of the overall application which makes the scheme viable.

Geoff Edwards, Chairman of the CWS Partnership, spoke in support of the application because of the considerable economic benefits it would bring to the wider local area but understandably there was significant local opposition making the decision very difficult for local Councillors.
