Further details relating to the £170 million investment to create Institutes of Technology has been released by the government.

The new Institutes of Technology are hoped to bring a step change in the provision of technical education, particularly at Level 4 and 5 aligned to the needs of local, regional and national businesses.

The Government will be looking for consortium bids that would need to include:

  • local employers
  • at least one FE College or private training provider
  • a Higher Education provider

It will be a competitive two stage process that will be launched before the end of 2017 with the first IoT opening in 2019.

“I’m delighted that these Institutes of Technology will build on the fantastic technical provision already provided by our local Further Education Colleges,” explains Caroline Wood, Director of the CWS Partnership.

‘It would have been a travesty if these great organisations aren’t able to benefit from the additional investment that will enhance their training offer.”
